David Spade Chicago reviews
Laughed until my face hurt
I had seen David Spade on SNL, talk shows and in my favorite stupid funny movies. I'd also enjoyed his memoir a lot. But I wasn't sure what to expect from his stand up act. But I was already laughing as he walked across the stage. He was so dry, sarcastic and fresh - the first tight 10-15 was about what had happened that day, which is not easy to hone to perfection for a comedian, but he did. He also handled dumb drunks yelling "Tommy Boy!" with aplomb. My brother and I laughed until our ribs ached. Also, Cobb Energy Center is a gorgeous and comfortable arena - my one quibble is that the lines to get drinks and food were way too long and closed way too early, though traffic and parking were a breeze - yea Cobb. Also, I usually dread the painful bombing of opening acts at a comedy show, but both were really funny and impressive (local Atlantan Andrew Stanley and Bobby Miyamoto - Bobby talked about his stroke, "that old chestnut" that gave Spade some good fodder later). It was a top-notch night, the first time I've attended anything this big, indoors and mask-less since the shutdown and it was exactly what I needed. Thanks so much David, you really lifted our spirits and made life feel good again!
